FOR A BETTER LIFE OF FOSTER FAMILIES CHILDREN

President of Palilula Boban Džunić, Violeta Blagojevic, director of the Center for Center for Foster Care and Adoption and Zoran Jovic, director of the Center for Social Work in Nis, signed a Memorandum of Understanding. This is the first time to launch such cooperation with a Municipality in the region and in the words of the signatories of the memorandum, it will be a good example and encouragement to other local governments.

According to the President Džunić, frin the total number of foster families in the City of Nis, 75 families rare from Palilula and in them there are more than ninety children. This fact encouraged us - said Džunić to take active participation and taker better look at the situation of children in foster care in order to improve the quality of life. In accordance with the capabilities and competencies of our Municipality, in the cooperation with the Center for Social Work the state of socially vulnerable categories of the population, children and youth, persons with disabilities, the elderly and infirm, the Roma population are taken into account and inspection. Although the average wage per working-age population is at the very bottom of Towns and Municipalities in the Republic, Palilula municipality actively participates in solving these problems.

On this occasion, the president of Palilula to the most successful athletes from foster families, donated sports equipment and props, as a sign of appreciation and encouragement for further efforts and successes.
According to director of the Center for Foster Care and Adoption Violeta Blagojevic, apart from the state, it is very important that children and helped by local self government. Center for family shelter and adoption Niš is the social care institution for administrative districts: Nišava, Toplica, Pirot, Jablanica and Pčinj, formed by the Decision of the Government of the Republic of Serbia on 26 May 2011. In these five districts, covered by Nis center for foster care and adoption, there are 420 foster families who care for 650 children. Even half of foster families live in Palilula. From the total number of foster families in the region, which are under the jurisdiction of the Centre, about 24 percent are families of the Roma national minority. (D.Vidojković)
